It looks like Wall Street wanted a lot more out of PTEK’s earnings this quarter. The stock traded down 25%. The stock opened ok and bottomed toward the closing bell. This stock is rockier than a roller coaster at King’s Island. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. This might be a good entry point for the stock.
I have to hand it to the folks at PokerTek they are moving some tables. The two most promising notes are the 319% quarterly growth as compared to the same period a year ago and decreased operating expense. Their operating expense moved from 399% of revenue to 102% of revenue. Which means they are starting to bring in enough cash to cover David Sklansky’s consulting contract. Just kidding.
Another part of the business that is starting to take affect is the recurring licensing and service fees associated with the system. These totaled 1.4 million for the quarter and grew 136% over the comparable period from 2007.
While the tables aren’t cheap at $30,000. The real money is in the recurring licensing once those tables are established. When you consider the world demand for gambling increasing and the fact that Macau is now bigger than Vegas in gambling it seems there could be bright future for the automated poker table market.
Despite the news it looks like Wall Street wanted a little more as the stock is down 7% in after hours trading.
